The Critique of Grading in Higher Education?
Philip Klein: grading does not motivate students to learn much more. He says grades don't have any kind of standardized meaning. When you introduce a letter grade people tend to focus on getting that grade, he says. But what actually makes people improve the most are just certain kinds of written comments on the quality of their work without telling them much about the grade.
