Martin Otto and his men sailed to Europe where they stopped along the way to ask advice from other camel owners. He said, Americans will be able to manage camels not only as well, but better than Arabs, as they will do it with more humanity and with far greater intelligence. After a long journey from New York to Constantinople and Alexandria, Major Wayne delivered the first cargo of 34 camels in 1856. The animals were transported to the wharf at Powder Point, three miles from Indianapolis, Texas where the US camel corpse would be set up.
