Researchers used memory hacking to get people to recall events that didn't happen. The participants were asked to visualize the event and then set themselves free for a week so they could think about it again. After each visualization, 70% of them said they remembered what had happened. This was done with an ethical protocol in mind - but whether or not it's ethical is another debate.
