The Importance of Violence in the History of Alexander
In 327 BC, Alexander is ruler of Macedonia and the Greeks, king of Persia and leader of Egypt. He has a huge empire, now including the restless land of Bactria, but has no heir. Later that year, Alexander reaches India, defeating several local rulers. His last great battle is at the Haidaspis River in what is now the Punjab region of Pakistan. But it's here that his beloved Bucephalus dies after being struck by a spear.
