Coca-Cola and the First Real Caffeine Scare
The first real caffeine scare occurred in 1911, involving none other than Coca-Cola. Some toxicologists testified that the drink caused reflex irritability of the respiratory center. In 1916, the U.S. Supreme Court declared caffeine to be addictive under the law. Laws currently limit how much caffeine can be in our drinks today.
