The Power of Cooking

I was always the happiest when I was cooking. It became like a very calming space in my head. When there was lots of turbulence around my life and whatever, every time I cook it was just like calm. And that's why I needed more than anything at that time. My mom's from the Philippines, she came to England when she was 24 with me. So young, it's so young. But sometimes it does just boil down to something that feels like it's in your DNA. Like we romanticise it, especially on TV shows about cooking. We bring all this fuzzy edged language and nostalgic stuff into it. There are people who get this incredible joy and sense of creative achievement
