The Moralization of Crime
In Germany, they really liked to focus on the victims and personify them. Unlike modern true crime, these pamphlets, broadsides and ballads almost always had a moralizing message. It's very different from modern concerns about crime in which the lesson is that you better lock your doors or call the police instead.
