The First Punic War
The first Punic War, also called the first Carthaginian War, it's a long war, 264 to 241 BCE. Most of the fighting is about the big Mediterranean islands, Sicily, Corsica. After more than 20 years, Carthage is defeated. They lose their final great naval battle off Sicily and they lose pretty much their hopes of becoming the dominant empire in the Western Mediterranean. The mercenary revolt is a subject of solemn bow, one of the great novels ever written.
