Is Dark Matter a Particle?

We just happen to have the right amount of dark matter left over in our universe that could be explained by a particle with the weak scale mass, interacting at the weak scale interaction strength. That doesn't require you to know anything about whether it's a particle or not. But this whole thing is a hypothesis. Is saying, let's see if it works out if you assume dark matter is a particle,. like, can we make this work?
