The Importance of Education in Antibiotic Therapy

I recall time when I was rounding on the ID service and we were seeing a patient in the ICU who was doing very poorly with interobacter cloiki complex pneumonia. We noted that the patient originally, the four or five days earlier had had the same organism culture. And so this was then brought to the micro lab. And then now the interbacter cloiki Complex was resistant to every fatalactum except for a marypennum. But just realizing that the people who are actually prescribing antibiotics are not always experts in every nuance of antibiotic therapy.
