For aristotle, the excellent use of reason would include things like mathematics. He devotes a whole section of the ethics to excellence in the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake. But he concedes that the range of practical situations we face is effectively infinite. You can't do just the right amount of incest or unprovoked murder. These actions shouldn't be done at all - which poses a problem for aristotle.
