How to Use Ungrading to Improve Your Evaluation System
I think that a general thing that everybody needs to think about when using any kind of alternative grading is this is something new for students almost guaranteed. I very much enjoy using ungrading also in some upper level math classes and I think it's worked pretty successfully for me. It requires helping students build up that ability to self-evaluate advocate for themselves to be able to understand what it is that matters in that particular system. This is also equally true for standards based grading or for specifications grading but with different skills that they're building up.
