What's Happened to Texas High School Football?

In the last 30 years, what has happened to the quality of texas high school football? I think it was a ratchet, a cultural ratchet, of persistent pushing on the part of parents and neighbors. We can't just say standardized tests don't matter, because that implies that our dreams don't matter. As long as we see that there is a connection between how well a kid does on third grade test and how good a high school they get into,. if that's one of the things in the system,  we're going to build the equivalent of the odessa football programme to do well on standardized tests.
