The Preference for Large Pupils

Psychologists were first drawn to pupils because of what they reveal about our private thoughts. But there's another side to the pupil, a public side: They're also part of our social lives. When we see another person's pupils widen, our own tend to follow suit. Pupillary synchrony builds up over a stretch of conversation and then drops off as we maintain eye contact.
