Evry was a legendary figure who had completely captured the public's imagination throughout Britain and beyond. The end of the war of the Spanish succession is probably the number one reason for the rise of pirates in the early 18th century. But just as you and I grew up with stars in our eyes when it came to our childhood heroes, Evry would have influenced many others into a life of piracy.
