Sophia Leonides is the eldest daughter of Magda and Philip. She's seemingly her grandfather's favorite, although that's not totally clear until further along the book event. The world as it appears to be Charles Hayward has fallen madly in love with another young Foreign Service Officer stationed in Cairo.
