What's the Difference Between Snow and Algae?
Pink snow is caused usually by members of the green algae. They're pink because they make red pigments, carotenoid pigments like the ones you have in carrots. Snow is not just pure frozen water. It forms in snow forms in the atmosphere and gets nucleated around dust particles. And those have phosphorus and nitrogen in them.
