The Strange Circumstances of the News Cycle

The news media have a direct incentive to present on the news things that are out of the ordinary. Good news isn't that interesting, so consequently, if you're trying to sell advertising, you show the bad news. When we really sit back and think about what life is like, not what we see on the news, our average everyday lives are actually quite peaceful. They're quite comfortable and they're becoming more so with each passing year.
