History of the Second World War

Introduction

On this episode of our Spanish Civil War interview series, I was joined by Dr. Matthew White, the author of Unite, Proletarian Brothers, Radicalism and Republicanism in the Second Spanish Republic. Our discussion focused on the events in Esterious, a region in Spain in 1934. In the end, 1,700 people would be killed in the region and 260 members of the Spanish military were included in that number. One of the topics that we touch on near the end is the role that Esterious would play in Franco's narrative of imminent and very possible revolution during and after the civil war.
