In 2020, when the U.S. Energy Information Administration did a survey, it actually was that 31% of households reported any type of insecurity in that year. In our paper, we use Smart Meter data from a utility company in Arizona to determine when do different households turn on their air conditioning units. We found that low-income groups wait 4 to 7 degrees longer than high-income groups to turn on theirAir Conditioners. They were waiting until it was over 80 degrees outside on average. Even though the average daily temperature is 80 degrees at some points and times of the day, the height could reach over 100 degrees.
