The Role of Due Rate in University Admissions
South Africa could do quite a good job with university admissions, he says. Hiring decisions are typically much more individualized than in the U.S., he adds. He is less sympathetic to affirmative action when candidates have already gone through doctoral degree. But if there were specifics in a case that indicated somebody had been disadvantaged, and if they're hired in this position, they could be everybody's good. If you're dealing with 12 years of primary and secondary education where pupils don't have thewithal to succeed then universities can make up their call.
