Consciousness Is Not Just a Definition
Consciousness is required for humans to explain to each other how they see the world. In evolutionary terms, it seems likely that consciousness has performed a vital social function in two directions. There are many aspects of perception that we could deal with without consciousness. For example, looking at what happens when we're asleep or meditating. When our brains are stimulated, we want to know whether the signals are coming from outside or inside us. And probably just as important, because i am conscious, i have some understanding of their ts, their beliefs and experiences.
