Lady Lucan and the Death of Lord Lucan
Lord Lucan's father died in 1964, and he inherited a quarter of a million pounds. But the money went out as fast as it came in, and he was losing vast amounts at the card table. On one occasion, he reportedly lost 8,000 pounds - almost 150,000 euros in today's money. His wife, Lady Lucan, had given birth to three children in six years; she suffered from severe postnatal depression. He failed to understand what was happening to his wife, or support her, and the marriage began to fall apart.
