The Importance of Switching Between Digital and Analog Modes

I used to just write long hand, you know, all the time. But that now seems just sort of absurdly inefficient. Now I take a Sharpie and have a big sketch pad and kind of sketch out... The broad strokes of a piece before I write it. And there's something about that getting those broad strokes out of the way before you can start editing that feels so much more constructive.
