meditation is just the practice of anchoring your mind in the present moment. Using a amantra or whatever you choose to anchor your mind is great in itself, because it's bringing your mind into the present moment where no stress exists. And and that is doing positive things for your body and mind as absolutely, absolutely. If you have problems closing your eyes with an om, then look, use your sense, use your use a sense of form and touch, and everything that's available to you. W make sure your hands could be something that sustaind as the practice.
