The term evangelical has been pulled away from its historical roots. It's now a term that notes a social and political orientation more than it expresses a connection to the gospel of Jesus Christ. No matter how many tweets they're sent, no matter how many op-eds that are written, in my opinion, there's very little possibility that the term will somehow revert to its historical usage.
