The final verse is a crucial shift, at least in how this song feels to me. There's just something different about this verse. There's a feeling of solidarity that wasn't present before. The strings have a few really nice parts here for the first time on the verse. They start with this low e swell that they come in on when she sings, let's hear what you think of me now.
Tori Amos was one of the most distinctive songwriters of the 90s, and remains a powerful musical voice decades later. "Silent All These Years," one of many strong singles off of her 1992 solo debut, is a perfect encapsulation of so many of the things that make her music special.
