Canada has made great strides in the last 20 years to adopt automatic and systematic penalties for those who drive recklessly. Not only are Canadians more likely to get caught out if they do break the law, they're also much more likely than their fellow North Americans to end up paying a fine. In the US, it's sort of something might happen right away, it might not. You might have a court date in a few months time, it's all kind of wishy-washy - you might feel like you can get away with it.
