The King's Not Interested in Taking Out a Rival
In the Old Testament, it's commonly taught that if someone commits a crime, they and their associates are punished. This idea that there's a ban on worshiping God has some historical issues because that really wasn't what was going on in that time period. No king of this period who claimed divine status forbade the use of other gods.
