Pasteur's development of the avian cholera and anthrax vaccines marks a big turning point in the history of vaccines. Waldemar Mordecai half-kind developed a cholera vaccine, which he promptly tested on himself and then narrowly escaped with his life. In 1902, after being given the plague vaccine, a bunch of people developed tetanus symptoms and 19 died.
