De Beauvoi's the Second Sex
There is so much in the second sex, yet there are some things that aren't there and seem to hover on the edges of the book. One is de beauvoi's own life, that philosophical ideal at the end of a kind of mutual relationship between free existential subjects. The central relationship with a man in her life was with the existentialist philosopher joan pousartre. But also she recognized that for him, his scruffiness, his smelliness, his ugliness, was a kind of sexual weapon which it could never be for a woman.
