Track and field is a small population relative to all the team sports where you need more variability. So it strikes me that that would be probably even more beneficial for a team sport athlete. They just need a few more movement options versus like a high jumper and track like they're just a bouncing stick, but so maybe in that case you wouldn't get into that so much.
