The Disconnectedness of Farming
Father Gregory: God's great promise to the people of Israel was that he would give them a place to dwell and that this land would provide for their sustenance. In Deuteronomy, in Leviticus, there's this custom of giving 10% of the harvest. When you're farming, when you recognize that there are only some, there's only so much that you can control, you want to give it back in a ready way to God recognizing that he's given it to you. Father Gregory: I think we should kind of incorporate into our working philosophy or working practice of tithing.
