The Tensions Between Liberalism and Community

Liberalism as an adjective constrains the use of force and makes for pluralism, skepticism and irony. Don't these things come in tension with one another? Tell me why not. If everybody is a true believer in whatever he truly believes, then without irony or skepticism of any sort, we won't be able to live with each other. That's why I spoke about a civil religion that wasn't overwhelming. We want a civil religion which still allows some distance.
