Having a Cost of Funds Problem Is a Contributing Factor
Having a cost problem is a contributing factor in companies doing dumb things. As your costs get too high, there's a temptation that it sort of like, say, a pension fund to do risky things. If you're a bank that is generally money at such a low cost, then you don't have to do risky Things very often. And so having low cost is very helpful. Moneyis a commodity, just the same way as if it was oil or something like that.
