The Effects of Habitual Diet on Performance

We know just anecdotally, even without doing studies that you can train yourself to handle a large volume of food. Now the question is, does that translate to any benefits to performance? That's more of an open question. What I would say is if you are the person who wants to really push the boundaries of how much fuel you're going to take on during a race then yes, you definitely need to spend some time training your guts to handle those specific foods and volume rates.
