In 1888 when he painted the red vineyard, Vincent Tobaschi was experimenting with the idea that color alone could generate an aesthetic. He used color not only to depict what he saw, but to make it come to life in his paintings. The colors were vibrant because the emotion was palpable, and they carried all the sorrows of a human story.
