The English Reformation and the Church
Every important stage of the English Reformation was authorized by the Parliament. That's one of the reasons why the English Parliament or very unusually in Europe survived the 16th century. At no stage was there a sort of council of the church which decided doctrine. There were traditional church bodies of convocations which had to assent to all this and they did sort of do the detailed stuff. But they weren't making the decisions. It's the king in Parliament which matters.
