In advanced economies, unless everybody starts getting enormously more fertile, the thing that we're going to need is to be able to support immigration. The UK spins between five and six million pounds a day, housing people in hotels who are asylum seekers and refugees. You could redirect those assets to building housing that you use to put people in dignified shelter and then sell it over time once you've integrated them and given them real jobs. They're more conservative idea I can't imagine, but one which actually could be win-wins.
