There is this interesting question about whether when we're thinking, whether we can sort of do thinking without being minds. I didn't like this question when it comes to AI because it's such a downstream problem that it kind of distracts us from looking at things that are right in front of our face with respect to challenges in the field. So I shifted away from consciousness to what's called inference.
