There is this interesting question about whether when we're thinking, whether we can sort of do thinking without being minds. I didn't like this question when it comes to AI because it's such a downstream problem that it kind of distracts us from looking at things that are right in front of our face with respect to challenges in the field. So I shifted away from consciousness to what's called inference. Inferences just means if given what you already know, and what you can see or observe, what's plausible or meaningful or what's the next thing that you should believe? Inference was one of the first explored types of deduction going all the way back to the syllogism - two premises
