Before the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay was only accessible by ferry. When car ownership took off in America, millions of vehicles were piling onto these boats every year to try and get cross. The team designing it were basically hit by a load of legal challenges from the firm that ran the ferries who wanted to stop the project. Interestingly, similar thing is happening right now over on the FEMON Belt Tunnel in Denmark. There's this big massive new tunnel we're talking about between Denmark and Germany. They're currently suing the developers there, which is really interesting. Yeah, ferry companies die like bridges.
