Having DC coupled on the advantage is that you have less inverters so in the old way of doing things we would have a battery that's got its own set of inverters. Modern inverters can actually accept both solar and batteries and so you can just share one inverter. The disadvantage is you really have to do it all at once so it's a single shot build rather than a decoupled build as Luke was talking about.
