How to Read a Verse in Context

Bible gateway.com lets you search for a verse and then click on the link that says read it in context. There are so many layers to context that I think sometimes we we ignore all of that. And if we don't have the right understanding, then there's no way we can have the right application. We would constantly be discovering that we're lost.
