A lot of musicians and artists in any medium are very critical of their own work. I'm certainly extremely critical of my own work and that only gets more pronounced over time. It's actually really fitting that you mentioned Bono here because singing is about as personal as it gets when he talks about his own singing. We all have a really fraught and weird relationship with our own voice if you've ever listened to a recording of yourself it can be very strange.
