The History of the Filibuster

The civil rights bill of 19 57 passed without a problem. A years later, when linden johnson was in the white house, he faced a much bigger filibuster battle over the civil rights act of 19 64. Southern senators banded together and pilibustered the bill for 54 days. While the act eventually passed, the struggle required to pass it sparked a renewed push to reform the clocer rule. And eventually, in 19 75, the vote count was changed from two thirds to three fifths,. lowering the amount of votes needed to end te filibuster to 60.
