The Invisible Disabilities at Work: Masking, Interviewing, Disclosure and Advocacy
Jessica Hicks-Ded: Masking inhibits your executive functions. When you are using a part of your brain to mask, you are using that executive function to use brain power instead of just being you and doing your job. This increased stress, it spends energy with every new social interaction. So thus we have burnout, we have downtime,. It just really weighs down, I mean personally. And I am still learning to unmask every day.
