The Dark Side of Basil
Basil beat Anastasia so badly, she begged him to get it over with and kill her. He blamed his actions on another woman he felt had ruined his life. Basil spent the next year in custody and was released on December 27, 2014. When he got out, his probation order included a noncommunication clause,. But Basil refused to sign it and walked free anyway.

A grim monument stands in Renfrew County by the banks of Ontario’s Petawawa River, where three steel sculptures bend gracefully towards a stone inscribed, with the names of over two dozen murdered women.
The Women’s Monument commemorates lives lost at the hands of men since 1969 and in 2016, it added three more.
