The Different Generations of Communications Technology
CNN's John Defterios spoke with the Privacy and Civil Liberties Union about its new report. The paper looked at a spate of laws that could be used to crack down on encrypted messaging apps, he said. But it also addressed questions around privacy in an age when technology has evolved so much since wiretap law was first written more than 100 years ago. He says there are still assumptions from older technologies baked into how the laws are written.
