The Kaiser's Invocation of the Huns
Some have suggested that this speech from 1900 may have even been the origin for the Hun slur for Germans. But experts on the period have demonstrated that this isn't actually true. The Germans were being stereotyped as Huns as far back as the Franco-Prussian war in the 1870s. Invoking their name immediately brought to mind wanton destruction, base cruelty and sadistic bloodlust. This is why the term Hun was so effective in English language propaganda.
