Utilitarianism and the Panoptic Eye
In the first chapter, she talks about how things never just want what they think that they want. She links utilitarianism with a fantasy which then ends up becoming colonial because you want to extend the greatest good to the greatest number. What's at work in that is a certain fantasy that Clare and Bo's obsession with the non useful clothing is when it gets revealed. The panoptic gaze is pursuing what resists that look, right? So, yeah, I think that's her. That's really the driving thread of this book.
